History of Kartini Day, a commemoration of the fight for women's emancipation

Every April 21 is designated as Kartini Day. In honor of Raden Adjeng (R. A.) Kartini's contributions to Indonesian women's education, this ceremony is being held. April 21, 1879 marked R. A. Kartini's birth, and he passed away on September 17, 1904.

The effort of R. A. Kartini to educate women in Indonesia is where the history of Kartini Day began. To honor R. A. Kartini's birthday, women's organizations began to form as a result of this struggle.

Through the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 108 of 1964, which was signed on May 2, 1964, and which also stipulated that R. A. Kartini was a Hero of National Independence, the commemoration of Kartini Day for his services was formally established.

The commemoration of Kartini Day honors the fight for women's independence. Emancipation refers to freedom from slavery and to having equal rights in all spheres of life. The goal of women's liberation is to allow women the same opportunities as men do to work, study, and create.
