At the Sydney Zoo, 5 Lions Escape
Turkey's Ankara - A brief state of emergency was declared on Wednesday after five lions at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia, broke out of their cages, according to officials.
Four pups and an adult lion were reportedly spotted outside of their main area, according to local officials.
According to a statement from Taronga Zoo, "the lions were monitored in a limited area near the main enclosure, where a six-foot barrier bars them from elsewhere in the zoo."
"Everyone on the premises was taken to a secure area. Four lions quietly entered their cages, and one cub was put to sleep. The lion cub is currently awake and healthy "explained he.
Initial reports claimed that the guardrail was defective, allowing the five lions to escape the main enclosure, but the reality was otherwise.
